While these little fellows generally don't cause any toxicity, some dogs may suffer from vomiting, diarrhoea and stomach cramps after eating them. Most importantly, these can cause a real risk of intestinal obstruction. If your dog manages to eat one of these, please give us a call at any of our branches for advice.
...is on today so please allow yourself a little more travel time to get to our Abingdon site.
He was brought in to us yesterday after being found on Radley Road upside down! He has a microchip but we have not been able to trace any owner as it is possibly an international microchip. If you know anything about this adventurous tortoise please give us a call at our Abingdon branch 01235 524777.
Does your furry friend need to come and see us on a Sunday but you both struggle to get out of bed in time? Well let us tell you some good news! Our Abingdon clinic is now open for extended consulting times on Sundays for your convenience. We will now be open Sundays 10am - 5pm. So now there's really no excuse to get that check up done!
Arthritis awareness month - have you ever wondered what your dog's knee looks like after a cruciate repair surgery? Rupturing the cruciate ligament in their knee is quite common in dogs. This can be a traumatic injury, but can also be secondary to arthritis. Here is one of our canine patients before and after surgery.
Is your best friend starting to slow down on walks? Many of our canine friends suffer from osteoarthritis as they get older. The good news is there are many things we can do to help. If you have any questions or concerns about your best friend, please give us a call at any of our branches and book in for an arthritis assessment.
...sometimes even we are surprised by the severity of arthritic change we find on an x-ray! This middle-aged dog came in for assessment as he had been slowing down and had some reduced range of motion in his elbows. The first x-ray is of a normal elbow, the second x-ray was his elbow!
Today is definitely a duvet and DVD day. Have you got a furbaby enjoying a snuggle today? Share your photos below so we can all enjoy the cuteness!
Some very exciting changes are coming to our Abingdon branch! Works have started today and we anticipate it to continue for 2-3 weeks. We are open as usual, just with a modified layout. Thank you to all of our customers for your understanding during this time. We can't wait to unveil our new look reception and consultation rooms in the coming weeks.
This beautiful girl was handed in to us late last week. She has no microchip or collar with an estimated age of 4-5 years. Unfortunately we haven't been able to get any further details about where she was found but the rescuers had been taking care of her for 2 weeks so she likely has been missing for some time longer than that. If you have any information please contact us at our Abingdon branch 01235 524777.
Sunday selfie time! Show us your pet's best selfie - visit our Facebook Page...

It's another beautiful day in paradise out there but please be careful with your furbabies in this heat! Make sure they have plenty of water, avoid exercising them during the middle of the day, and remember not to leave them in your car - even if it is just to quickly pop in to the shop. If you need any advice on keeping your pets cool in this weather please give us a call at any of our branches and our staff will be more than happy to help.
A beautiful 9-week old puppy named Fern. She was the perfect patient for her first vaccination and we can't wait to see her back in 3-4 weeks for her booster. At the rate she is growing, we wonder if we will still be able to pick her up for cuddles.
Bloo made his journey to the Rainbow Bridge last week and the Abivale team will miss him dearly. His dad wanted to share this picture of Bloo enjoying one of his favourite activities - helping dad write by warming his laptop for him. All of our furbabies fill such a special place in our hearts and our lives. Our thoughts are with Bloo's family during this sad time.
Are you planning on taking your best friend with you for your summer holiday? Don't forget pets also need passports for any international travel. Our staff can help you with all of your pet passport needs, just give us a call at any of our branches.
Something tells me she's not quite ready for it to be Monday again.
He came to visit us at our Abingdon surgery yesterday to have his first vaccination. Needless to say he was promptly passed around every staff member for some serious cuddles. He was so brave for his vaccination and we can't wait to see him again in 3-4 weeks for his booster.
Meet Diesel - he came in as an emergency a couple of weeks ago after an unfortunate accident left him with some very serious injuries to a very sensitive part of his anatomy (we will keep it at that as we don't want to embarass the poor fella). As you can see he has now made a full recovery and is back enjoying all of his favourite things. Thank you to Diesel's mum for the update - it really brightened our day to see him back to his playful self!

We love Easter and we love rabbits but please remember that rabbits are there to be loved all year round! They are very cute and sweet but, like all pets, need regular care and commitment. Please help us spread this important message!
Another lovely display raising awareness of potential dangers at Easter. Please remember Hot cross buns and Chocolate eggs are NOT for dogs!!
But please remember to keep all those yummy treats out of our pets reach, as many of them are poisonous!! Every year we treat several dogs for chocolate and raisin poisoning. It's all too easy at this time of the year for our pets to find that unattended Easter egg, or hot cross buns left in easy reach. If you suspect that your dog has eaten any quantity of chocolate or raisins, or any other toxic substance that you see on this months display board, then please call Abivale vets immediately to seek advice and get treatment.
Every year we treat dogs for chocolate and raisin poisoning. It's all too easy at this time of the year to find them chomping away at that shiny looking easter egg or to snatch that sneaky hot cross bun from off the counter when your back is turned! If despite your best efforts you even suspect that your dog has eaten any quantity of chocolate or raisins (accidents happen!) then please call asap to get advice and seek treatment.
These two beautiful rescue budgies came in to have their beaks and nails trimmed; they were called Esla and Arna, but it turned out they were male, so went home called Bert and Ernie!
We're going! Are you? Millets Farm are putting on another of their fantastic fundraising dog shows; look out for the Abivale stall where we will be doing pet nail clippings and dental checks for only a few pounds each- all proceeds to charity. We will also be judging one of the classes - hope to see you there!
The cone of shame, the lampshade, buster collar...... whatever you may call it, we've all had this battle with our pets haven't we?! We know it's for the best but they don't always understand do they? Who has a lampshade picture that they want to share with us today on our Facebook page?
Whether you are a Mother to a furry, feathered or scaly baby (or a human baby of course!) we hope that you have a lovely day :)
